DONT TAKE FLIGHT
We’re all influenced by fear in our lives. We might be afraid of rejection, being taken advantage of, criticism or losing our security. It’s important to be able to identify our fears so we can address them. Horses are also definitely influenced by fear. If you’ve spent any time with them you’ll easily see it. They’re a prey animal so their lives depend on being prepared to take flight so they don’t become a meal. In the same way that we need to address our fears we also need to be able to help our horses address theirs if we want to have a safe and reliable horse to be around and ride. In order to do that we need to understand how to reassure them that they don’t need to take flight when they encounter something scary. We need to control the situation with something that creates fear in them and teach them to slow down and investigate this scary object or sound so that they find confidence in us and in themselves. In the same way we need to slow down and investigate our fears so we can respond instead of react to what happens to us in life and in doing so hopefully find more confidence in ourselves.
